BYOd learning at One Mile State School

Sure! Here's a rewritten version of your message with improved flow and clarity, and with a clear note added about Chromebooks not being compatible with the school's ecosystem:

BYOd Learning at One Mile State School

One Mile State School is proud to be Gympie’s pioneering primary school to implement a BYOd (Bring Your Own Device) program. This initiative is available to students in Years 4, 5, and 6. With the introduction of the new curriculum and QLearn platform, a wide range of digital learning resources are now easily accessible and shareable at the click of a button. Students can complete and submit assignments online, reducing the chance of losing work and making learning more streamlined.

Our teachers use a blend of traditional and digital teaching methods, ranging from handwriting on paper to utilizing educational software and digital tools on student devices. Each subject area has defined expectations for how devices will be used, as outlined by our Heads of Departments. To support consistent and effective learning across all subjects, it is essential that students bring their device to school every day.

To ensure your child’s device connects smoothly with the school’s Wi-Fi, printers, and other systems, we strongly recommend using a sturdy, protective case—whether it’s a laptop or an iPad. Following the recommended device specifications will help avoid issues and ensure compatibility. Devices that fall outside these guidelines may encounter limited functionality and could hinder your child's learning experience.

Important Note: Chromebooks are not compatible with our school’s digital systems and should not be used. Please choose a device that meets the specifications listed below.

Key Information Before Purchasing a Device

Although the school primarily uses the 5GHz Wi-Fi frequency, devices that support only 2.4GHz will still be allowed until late 2025. After this point, 2.4GHz support will be gradually phased out. This transition period is designed to accommodate students who currently own older devices.

How will it work at school?

To join the school network, the device onboarding process can be conveniently completed either from home or with the assistance of our IT Technician at the school premises. It is important to note that immediate access may not be granted to everyone. To gain access, it is necessary to reach out to the school and submit a request to be included in the BYOd program.
