At One Mile State School our vision ‘Discover the gold within’ underpins our expectations for students, staff and the school community. To realise this vision, there is an expectation for all teachers to become expert practitioners and a commitment that “every day in every classroom, every student is learning and achieving within a safe, supportive, inclusive and disciplined learning environment” ( United in the Pursuit of Excellence – Education Queensland’s Agenda for Improvement 2011-2015).
The Pedagogical Framework adopted by One Mile State School is based on the Art and Science of Teaching (ASOT), a pedagogical framework based on the work of Robert Marzano. “The words art and science were carefully selected to convey a message – effective teaching in both the art and science”( Marzano, 2007). The OMSS Pedagogical Framework captures historically our school’s teaching and learning development and implementation. As an IDEAS school, we are committed to ongoing reflection and renewal. As the school worked through and continues to embed the Dimensions of Teaching, every day in every class room staff are providing a teaching and learning framework supportive of student improvement. Today, our journey continues to pursue ‘the gold’ for every student’s learning outcomes. Through effective whole school practice, expectations for all members of the school community – staff, parents and students - student improvement outcomes are achieved.
The OMSS Pedagogical Framework (PDF, 412Kb) captures the everyday work of our school – ‘what you will see, what strategies we are using to achieve improvement and the evidence you will see’ at One Mile State School.
